Rio De Janeiro

Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain.

You must go to Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain.  You can miss every other attraction in Rio but not these two.  Brazil is one of misertravel favorite destinations in the world.  Great balance of friendly people and amazing tourist attractions.  Misertravel has toured nearly ALL tourist attractions in Rio De Janeiro and cultural tours of favelas.

Don’t forget your international travel adapter. You will need it for Brazil. Click on the image for some low cost options. #ad.

Where to stay? For business, vacation, carnival.

Misertravel recommends you stay at a hotel right off the beach in the center of Copacabana or Ipanema beach depending on your budget and likeness.  Use the map function when booking.  See https://misertravel.com/rio-de-janeiro/

Take the taxi.  Misertravel don’t recommend taking any tour to the Christ the Redeemer and definitely not to Sugar Loaf Mountain.  The tour operators are great and friendly people, and on time.  However, the tours are too much of a rush and the entry fee is not included anyway to Sugar Loaf Mountain. You will want to enjoy your time at your own pace.  And it cost less to do it yourself.

Misertravel made that mistake and you don’t have to.  You can go to both on the same day.  Misertravel recommends going to the Christ the Redeemer first and spending the rest of your late morning and afternoon at Sugar Loaf Mountain.

Take a Taxi to Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain.   Each way from Copacabana is about $30 reals depending where you get on and traffic.  It can be a little more expensive depending on road closures between Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain.  Always pay attention to the meter and become familiar with general taxi fare cost by distance.

How to get Brazilian cash/Brazilian Reals?

Avoid changing money at the airport or using the ATM’s at the airport.

Misertravel don’t recommend changing any foreign currency into Brazilian reals at the airport when you land in Rio De Janeiro or Sao paulo.  You will get ripped off.  The first indicator is that they don’t advertise any rates or fees.   If you don’t have transportation already arranged, use the official airport taxi and use your credit/bank card to pay.

Use the ATM’s inside the banks with the secure doors in Copacabana, and Ipanema to withdraw cash.  You will get the best rates here minus your own bank fees of course. From here on, misertravel recommends paying everything in cash to avoid credit/bank card scheming frauds.  You definitely need cash if you want to spend time in Lapa for the nightlife.
